All I want for Christmas are radiant radiant heated floors

The older you get, the less fun holidays seem to become.

I suppose as a child I had this idea that getting older meant you had more control over the festivities & could easily make them your own, but it turns out that the exact opposite is true.

The older I get, the less control I have over the holidays. I spend the entire 3 months leading up to the crucial mornings preparing everything for everyone, & making sure that my schedule will accommodate all the family obligations. I say goodbye to hundreds of dollars & struggle for months afterwards. I also never ask for any gifts, & definitely never acquire any that blow me away. Not this year, though. This year I’m asking for the one thing I easily want without guilt, radiant radiant heated floors. All year long, I am frigid cold. It could be the middle of a scorching hot summer time when every other soul craves abundant AC, & I will still be covered in goosebumps & shivering. I spend all of my time wrapped in blankets & seeking out hot uneven temperatures, all the while commuting to work & taking care of the entire house despite my cold, numb fingers. I provide everything to everyone, including my internal body heat. Our old heating system is on it’s last leg & actually won’t even make it through the winter. At this point, I’m barely surviving with a dozen space boilers spread all over the house. My extremities are stiff with frigid & I swear my heart has shrunk 3 times even since the fall chill settled in. But the holidays will be worth it & 2019 will be better. I’m certain that my spouse will follow through & purchase brand new radiant heated flooring for the house, if he knows what’s nice for him.

Awesome rental car, except for heat

I sat in the driveway & fiddled with all of the temperature increase dials, the air flow speed, & the direction of air venting… however, nothing improved the indoor air temperature

Last week I had quite an frustrating string of events thrown my way, as usual, however my associate and I were just wrapping up “no stress November” as the universe threw us a few curveballs to kickstart January, including my car breaking down without warning! I was on a little road trip to visit my best neighbor when the Check Engine light came on & the car stopped responding to the accelerator pedal; Of course, I was not pleased to have this travel complication. My annoyance only increased when I attempted to drive to work & found that the car was completely dysfunctional a few mornings later, but at that point, I finally pulled out my kindle & started looking for rental cars. I rented an economy model, but wound up getting a sweet replace to something extravagant at the facility, the car was a lot of fun to drive, actually… except for one problem. The car did not come equipped with working heat inside. As I drove property I desperately punched at the temperature control controls, thinking that I was just pushing the wrong control buttons. I sat in the driveway & fiddled with all of the temperature increase dials, the air flow speed, & the direction of air venting… however, nothing improved the indoor air temperature. I tried to swap it out with another car, but the dealership was steadfast that their temperature control must have worked, for the next week I lived without any sort of heat during my commute to & from work, & of course the air temperature dipped lower & lower each afternoon, but by the time my car was finally fixed & ready to be picked up from the shop, I was so sick of the dysfunctional temperature control in the rental vehicle. I swore I never wanted to drive another car again.

Freezing in the evening; no fireplace for santa

Lately my buddy and I have been enduring a lot of concerns with our property thermostat and temperature control methods.

I should be clear, the biggest problem is our seriously drafty cabin and accorporationing ancient boiler; During the summers our little locale stays nice and cool, and my buddy and I have always fresh and high quality indoor air whenever the A/C is running.

My associate and I can happily get through the 8 months of overheated weather that settles into the part because there is official ventilation to keep us glad and healthy. In the winter, however, our property easily fails to meet expectations. There is chilly air coming from all the doors and windows, and our seasoned boiler provides uneven temperatures and wild changes. This year we’ve been relying heavily on our wood burning fireplace to compensate for the exhausting boiler, especially at evening when the air temperature has been dipping into the 20s. So far this method has successfully saved us from having to call out a professional Heating and Air Conditioning contractor to inspect the boiler and charge us thousands of dollars for an updated central heating unit, however there was one unforeseen hiccup in this plan. My associate and I never considered that my step child would be spending Christmas with us. My associate and I didn’t feel about the fact that she is currently heavily invested in the myth of Santa Clause. No one considered that she would be aggravated if a fire was roaring in the fireplace on Christma Eve. None of the adults was quite as uneasy about Santa burning her seasoned butt on the flames on the way down, however long story short, after an outburst of hysterical cries, my buddy and I had quite a chilly Christmas Eve and easily cranked the heat on Christmas afternoon.

Air dehumidifier for humid months

In the past year I relocated from my home state to a very different region of the country. I have to say, I’ve been less traumatized by the move than I expected, although I’m not adapting as well as I could have. So far I haven’t made any new friends and I’m pretty scared to drive into the city alone because of all the maniac drivers out there. But I have found a few locations where I feel safe and comfortable, and I enjoy visiting those attractions as often as I can. So all in all, I’m doing okay with the big move. One of the things I haven’t grown accustomed to yet is the insane heat and humidity in these parts. While I was used to a brutal winter that lasted from October through April, around here it starts to heat up again in February! Within a few weeks it is genuinely hot and sticky outside, and everything feels miserable unless you’re basking in abundant air conditioning every waking moment. I love the days when it’s comfortable enough to open our windows and doors for natural ventilation and to air out the house, but I’ve realized that even on the cooler days around here, the humidity is still off the charts. The moisture from the air seems to seep into every soft surface of our home and leaves a lingering wet smell throughout the whole place. I think this year we would be wise to invest in a new dehumidifying unit to save ourselves and our air conditioner a little hassle when the heat and humidity start to settle in again.

Frequent power outages disrupt HVAC program

I’ve been living in this city for just about 6 months now, and I’m still deciding exactly how I feel about it.

See, I moved many states away from all of my friends and family, and I haven’t made new friends at all here. What’s more, I’m terrified of driving in this area because on top of the rampant traffic problem, the other motorists are complete idiots who pay no attention to what they’re doing. It’s truly dangerous out there. One thing I love about the region, however, is the prevalence of trees and forests integrated with the city. There are so many patches of tall trees interspersed with the city perimeter, and they make sitting in traffic slightly more peaceful. The only problem with them is they drop branches often, and knock out the power to our home on a regular basis. These power outages have been messing with our home’s modern temperature control unit, and I’m afraid it could do permanent damage to our central heating and cooling system. Every time we lose power, which is every few weeks, our smart thermostat totally shuts down and has to be reset and rebooted before it will communicate with the air handling equipment again. This means the indoor air is regularly untreated, becoming hot and humid when the air temperature controls and air conditioner stop speaking to one another. It also could be sending power surges to our expensive heating and cooling equipment, which will certainly affect the lifespan of the system. I wish there was something we could do to protect our ventilation system long term!
