Husband needs to learn about HVAC

My husband is absolutely incredible. Sometimes I can’t even believe what a great human he is, and he amazes me every day through some means or another. One of the things that I envy the most is his ability to learn. While I have a hard time retaining information from reading blocks of text, he has no problem scouring pages upon pages of content and committing the tiniest details to memory. I have no idea how he absorbs so many facts just skimming over web pages, but I sure wish he would put that talent to better use sometimes. Rather than learning about car modifications, limited whisky releases, or new cooking techniques, I really wish he could become an expert on our home repair needs. There are so many handyman projects he could tackle around the house, saving us tons of money in hiring professionals. Our HVAC system, for instance, is desperately overdue for routine maintenance and diagnostics. I know he’s capable to clean out the furnace and air conditioner inner workings and to check for fluid levels and worn out parts. He’s a great mechanic when his car has a problem, so I can’t see why the heating and cooling equipment would be any different. I also have no doubt that he could diagnose strange sounds and smells coming from the old furnace. What’s more, there’s no chance that he’s incapable to change out the nasty old air filters every few months. There’s nothing holding him back from becoming our in-home HVAC professional; he just needs to finally take an interest.

No green thumb

I am so envious of the people who somehow have magnificent outdoor gardens or indoor house plants.

I don’t understand how they do it.

As much as I love to take care of all things, i just can’t seem to get myself to provide the proper care to any type of plant. I don’t know if it’s because the plant can’t talk to you and ask for what it needs, or if I’m just a total dimwit when it comes to greenery. Either way, I would truly love to be able to brighten up my house with the addition of some colorful fresh plants, but for years I’ve only managed to fill it with dry and brown foliage. I finally decided one day that enough was enough, and I was going to try once and for all to learn some botany skills. First things first, I needed to establish the proper air conditions for indoor plants to flourish. Before, I always just assumed that greenery would coexist in the normal air temperature control settings that I enjoyed. I kept the air humidity quite low and the temperature was moderate around 70 degrees year round. After doing some reading, however, i learned that this is less than ideal for most plants. In fact, they prefer air conditions to be rather moist so they can respirate easier through the moisture in the air. They also cannot stand to be right near air vents, which dry them out quickly. With all of this new information in hand, I’ve begun updating my HVAC system so I can finally grow my own indoor plants.

Tried vacuuming own ducts

I am a true believer that most people can accomplish any task if they put their minds to it.

I don’t think that anyone is more qualified than anyone else, so long as adequate instruction is provided with explicit safety standards.

That’s why I refuse to pay for a professional to come and take care of my home’s HVAC system. I am convinced that i can do the job just as good as they can, assuming I have my ipad right next to me. That way I can stream YouTube tutorials on any topic as I attempt to diagnose and repair my heating and cooling system. So far I’ve had good luck with this DIY ventilation maintenance and repair, but there’s always another task that needs to be accomplished. That means there are always more educational videos for me to watch, and new air temperature control mechanic skills to acquire. I’ve done well performing routine diagnostics, replacing the old HEPA air filters, and oiling up some sticky moving parts. After that, my most recent project was to examine the air ducts that run through the entire house. I read that having dirty or damaged ductwork can greatly affect the efficacy of your home HVAC system. After that, I decided I would climb up and clean the ducts out all on my own, using our normal vacuum cleaner. Well, that project sure didn’t go as smooth as possible. Long story short, I’ve recently had to hire a professional ventilation expert to reinstall a section of ductwork and a local vacuum repairman to boot.

Long trips are difficult

I’ve never traveled so much in my life as I have with my current boyfriend.

Before, I was never able to afford the high cost of gas money and hotels on my own, so I didn’t get to see much of the world, but these days the situation has changed.

Because he’s a professional musician and instructor, my boyfriend gets to travel often for work in order to attend conferences and give clinics on his field of expertise. Since the cost of driving is covered by his paycheck, I get to ride along and see more of this country than I ever have before! We love our long road trips together and we have a normal set of traditions to get through the drive, including sour candies and funny podcasts. The only thing we haven’t really figured out yet is how to find a good compromise on the car’s interior air temperature while we’re on the road. See, my boyfriend is constantly pretty warm, and he wants to have the air conditioning running at a moderate level in order to cool himself down. I, on the other hand, tend to run cold. I also totally hate the feeling of cold air passing over my bare skin, so the air conditioning pouring out of the vents and directly onto my body is pretty unsettling for me. I try to keep warm with sweatshirts and blankets, using the layers to protect my skin from the cool AC flowing towards me, but then I encounter a new problem; I’m too hot from the warm sun streaming in through the window! I feel like I’m going through menopause.

Anyone else creeped out by hotels?

Until recently, I entirely loved staying in hotels.

I feel that they were deeply tied to family vacations and excitement from my early childhood afternoons, and that feeling carried over into adulthood. I used to be giddy at the thought of packing my stuff, checking in, and seeing someone else’s cable all evening. These afternoons, I am not gleeful at all about hotel living. You see, at a particular age, you start to realize just how freaking gross hotels entirely are. My buddy and I already know that the room will light up like a christmas tree if you shine a black light, however what all the people don’t know to watch out for is the in-suite Heating, Ventilation plus A/C system. I recently learn an article in Nature about the bacterial and viral cultures that were collected from big hotel chains. I tried not to gag as I learn that the worst of the contaminations were collected from the indoor temperature control systems. Apparently, compared to the door handles, carpet, cable remote, and toilet seat, the air filters and air vents of the tiny temperature control systems had the greatest prevalence of harmful microbial cultures! It seems that most hotels do not officially repair the component Heating, Ventilation plus A/C systems. Bacteria are caught up in the air handling system, and then evenly dispersed through the air as it is pushed through the front vent. Apparently, your entire room could be contaminated with billions of foreign airborne pollutants and little critters, every surface would be coated with invisible invaders, and air intake system only works to redistribute the contamination in an endless cycle; Looking up from the article, I eyeballed the suite heating and cooling system suspiciously before party all of my belongings and checking out a week early.
