Electrical Panels

I’ve always lived in older homes.

The first home that I owned was great, it had a pool, a big front porch and a lot of yard for my dog to run around in.

My second old home that I lived in had four stories with a lot of rooms. I didn’t mind that house but it got to the point where the area I was living in was not very safe. So I started looking at other places to live and that’s where I found the third old house that I’m living in now. I’ve had no luck with this house since I’ve moved in. I didn’t realize that my floors were rotting so I had to tear up my carpet to replace the floorboards. Not to mention the oven and refrigerator stopped working. Needless to say it has been a pretty pricey move so far. On top of everything else I found out that I need to update my electrical panel. I had an appointment with an electrician to come to my house and inspect all of the electrical outlets. Once he got to my electrical panel he saw that it was really old and outdated. He told me the best option is to modernize it. By updating the electrical panel I would avoid a potential house fire that is normally caused by dangerous connections because of old electrical panels. This is the last thing that I wanted to hear. I didn’t want to spend more money on another old house. But since I will be living here for a long time I guess I could make this house my home.

Electrical Usage

Living in older home has its ups and downs.

I love living in an older home because there’s a lot of character to it. The outside of it is very Victorian with its designs. My house is very unique compared to others in my neighborhood. My house is one of the oldest where I’m sure there’s a lot of history to it. This summer I just painted the whole outside of my house to its original color that it was in the early 1900s. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it so far. The inside of my home is just as pretty as it is on the outside. When you walk into my foyer there is a grand staircase with a big crystal chandelier. The other night when I was watching TV I plugged in my phone, my laptop, and my ipad to the wall for some reason I wasn’t getting any charge to my devices. I called my electrician and he told me that it seemed like I blew a fuse. He came over the next day to check it out. He inspected the area where I plug in all of my devices. He said that since I had other things plugged in the other outlets in my living room I was exceeding the panels capacity. He recommended that since my home is older, I upgrade to a one hundred or two hundred amp service. By doing this I will be able to have more dependability with my outlets. I decided to upgrade since I would like more charge throughout my older home.

Ceiling Fans

I’m trying to update a lot of my appliances and decor in my home.

  • I recently bought a house for a fairly cheap price in a local suburb.

I don’t mind the house but it could use a new carpets and new light fixtures. The carpet is very outdated, it looks like something from the seventies. The carpet is green and orange throughout my home and it is the first thing that is going in the trash. However it’s a good thing that I recently purchased new carpets to replace the old ones. I went to the hardware store the other day to look at lighting fixtures. I bought a few and I also decided to buy some ceiling fans. There is only one ceiling fan in the house and it is just as bad as the carpets. I honestly don’t even think it works, so I decided to buy four ceiling fans that match the decor of my home. There was only one problem, unfortunately I wasn’t sure how to install my new ceiling fans. I called my electrician to set an appointment and have him install them for me. He told me that not only do ceiling fans add more of an appearance to my home but they also cut down on using my air conditioning unit during the summer. He installed my fans in the right location of each room. He addressed that on a hot summer day having the fans on can decrease a room temperature by at least six to eight degrees. I am pleased with my new purchases.

The Usage of Generators

I was in a really bad snow storm about three years ago.

My home was covered in four feet of snow.

It was great for the ski resorts but for my house and my driveway not so much. My driveway had to get plowed at least three times until I was able to get out of it. With the heavy snow on the power lines I lost power. The power outage lasted for about three days. It wasn’t very enjoyable for me because I had to monitor when I could flush my toilets. Good thing my driveway was cleared so I could drive to my parents house to at least take a shower. When I was at their house my dad recommended that I look into purchasing a generator. He explained to me that generators are placed outside of my home like a condensing unit of an air conditioner. I was interested on the functionality of a generator so I contacted my electrical service. Once I got a hold of them I asked what generators can do for my house. Besides providing lights, he said that power outages can bring about freezing pipes, the growing of mold when an air conditioning unit shuts off for awhile, and the potential perishing of food in a refrigerator. And because generators start automatically, I won’t have to go outside in the cold to turn it on if I lose power because of a snow storm. I also won’t have to worry about going to my parents house for food or to take showers when the power is out.

Generators

I live in the south and sometimes we get pretty bad thunderstorms.

There have been a few instances where are our basement will flood and trees will fall down.

Not to mention the lost of power due to trees falling on power lines. There was one time where my family and I were out of power for five days. We had to go to a shelter so we could have warm showers and a cooked meal. We didn’t mind going there for the time being but we missed being in the comfort of our own home. To avoid losing electricity again my family and I decided to invest in a generator. Generators are great to have when electricity is out. I decided to call my electrician to find out more on generators. He recommended a brand to me and gave me some information. He told me that generators will automatically kick on when they sense that utility power has been lost. But when utility power is back up and running, the generator will kick off and be on standby mode for the next power outage. He recommended that I do some measurements before I purchase a generator. This will allow me to know the type of voltage of the generator that I need to get. With getting a higher voltage you can run your generator to refrigerators, to a heat pump, to your water and a washing and drying machine. It’s almost like your home is running on utility power and there never was a power outage. I look forward to purchasing a generator.
