Since I was young, I have wanted to go to college and work in a big corporate office.

So, that’s exactly what I did. I got a job right after college in a big company in the city. At first, I loved my job so much. I had all the zeal and drive of a young graduate out to conquer the corporate world. I remember my older brother advising me to take it easy and move step by step. But, I was pumped and wanted to rise as fast as I could up the corporate ladder. However, after COVID hit, I got fired and lost all enthusiasm. My brother came to my rescue and told me to train as an HVAC expert. After that, I could work in his HVAC business as a technician and administrator. At first, I resisted, but finding a job was hard, and I was too bored at home. Eventually, I went to HVAC school, did my course and excelled. My brother had a job lined up for me, and we began going out to the field together. He had always said an HVAC worker would never lack, and I quickly realized he was right. There was so much money to be made in the HVAC industry, which explained why his business was so successful. Plus, I realized he was an excellent HVAC expert, and his customers loved his work. There were tons of positive reviews for my brother’s company and his experienced crew of HVAC experts on the company site. I’m now glad to be working for him and also love that I don’t feel the excess pressure to compete anymore.

I was sure summer would be an agonizing time for my family and me.

We live in a hot climate and always have to have the air conditioner running.

Otherwise, no one would be comfortable at home. Last summer, we had issues with the air conditioner failing and sought help from an HVAC company. They were rated as the best in our area, so we expected nothing but the best service. The HVAC technician who came to our home was a lovely fellow who did his best to fix the issues. But, after two weeks, the HVAC system failed again. This kept happening 3 more times, and we had to find a lasting solution. Our HVAC system was about 15 years old and was on its last leg. However, the cost of a new unit was more than we could handle at the time. The best thing to do was find a way to get a fairer price and a discount on the installation. We searched for an HVAC company with such offers and came across one in the next town. They still serviced our area, so we called them up for a quote and learned more about the HVAC units in stock. We’d get 15% off the new HVAC system and pay only a 50% installation fee as new clients. This was the greatest thing ever since it still saved us some cash. After we called the HVAC company, they had a crew over at the house the next day to do the job. Their efficiency was impressive, so we opted to get a service agreement with them.

I have a little side hobby that I do for extra cash.

I go searching around for broken portable air conditioning and heating equipment and then I repair it, refurbish it and sell it online.

It is something that started when I found an old portable air conditioning system I had in my garage and decided to try and fix it. When I found that I was able to fix it and get it working good as new again, it gave me the idea to hunt down other broken portable air conditioning systems and portable space heaters to do the same thing. It took about a year to get this hobby and side business off the ground and really rolling. But once I did, it became a regular thing that I do. I don’t sell them the same price as brand new portable air conditioning systems and portable space heaters. I sell them much cheaper because they are used and fixed. Also most of the portable air conditioning and heating systems that I fix are a bit older so they are not the same as the portable air conditioning systems and portable space heaters on the market today that you can buy new. But they work just as good and if not a little better to be totally honest with you all. I feel the older heating and air conditioning equipment of all kinds were a bit better than today’s. New doesn’t mean better in many cases. And I feel that goes double for heating and air conditioning equipment.

I am so glad that I had an HVAC service plan with my local heating and air conditioning company. Because just a few months ago we had a real serious storm go down here and it ended up wrecking my central heat and a/c unit. Because of this, you would think that I would need to invest in a brand new, up to date and very expensive central heating and air conditioning system. But because I had the HVAC service plan from my local heating and air conditioning company, this type of damage was covered in it and I ended up getting a new heat and a/c unit completely free with the exception of just having to pay the installation charges. Which even though that was a nice chunk of change, this saved me thousands of dollars in the end. Having a heat and a/c service plan is very important when you own a central heating and air conditioning system unit. Because not only does it protect you in situations like what I went just went through, but it also gives you pre paid HVAC tune up and check ups as much as you want. If you wanted a heating and air conditioning system tune up and check up every month, you could get it without having to pay another cent. This is all in the beauty of the heat and a/c service plan that I have with my local heating and air conditioning company. If you do not have an HVAC service plan with your local heating and air conditioning company I highly suggest signing up and paying for one!

I work in the heating and air conditioning business.

But I work a little differently than others or what you would expect in the industry.

I am what’s called an independent heat and a/c specialist. Working as an independent heating and air conditioning specialist is where you have your own HVAC business but you are the only one there. In other words, you make the rules, the pay and everything. You work on your own hours and schedule. No one tells you what hours or days to work. Now naturally you will need to work within a reasonable time frame of what business hours are. But if you want to work in the evenings you can, while most heating and air conditioning companies would never do that. This can be an advantage with those hours for people who need heating and air conditioning system installations later in the day for instance. Most standard heat and a/c companies will not do heating and cooling system installations anytime other than crack of dawn in the morning. For many, this is a real inconvenience. Especially for those who have 9 – 5 jobs. That really makes it so they have to take the day off for a heating and air conditioning system installation. With me being an independent heat and a/c contractor, I offer heat and a/c installations later in the day to be more flexible with the customer. I make more money this way! I change about the same price as well. It’s all about doing your own thing.
