There was a problem with the air quality

The new house was so cool.

  • Even though it was very old, dating back to the late 1800s, it had been well kept over the years.

Some old houses look ramshackle, but this one was quaint and classy. The only issue I had after moving in was with my allergies, which seemed to get much worse in the new house. I am prone to allergies anyway, so I take several daily meds for it, but this was something I hadn’t encountered before. I decided the first step should be to contact a local HVAC company and have them test my indoor air quality. Two days later a lovely young HVAC tech arrived on my doorstep with a satchel full of testing equipment. It took a few hours, because she did a thorough inspection of the central system and all of the ductwork, as well. Her results were conclusive – my allergies were being exacerbated by a preponderance of rat feces and hair in the ventilation system. She could find no traces of rats or mice currently living in the air ducts, but at one point they had. All of the dander and germs they left behind were still haunting the air ducts, and killing the air quality for the whole house. Since the rodents were gone, the HVAC tech had a quick fix for me, because all I needed was a deep cleaning of the ventilation system. I really hope she is right, and after the air ducts and air vents have all been cleaned and sterilized then my allergies will stop kicking my butt so hard.
