I thought the heated floors would be more powerful

I have always wanted heated flooring in my house. The only cons to this heating system is that it adds height and weight to the floor. Additionally you need to rip up your old floors in order to do the heating installation. I have always had it in the back of my mind that I am going to rip up the old rugs and put down tile. I have just been waiting for the opportune moment. Well recently my husband and I went on a trip together. I rented a little cottage out in the middle of nowhere. They had a fireplace and heated flooring. I was so excited to try heated flooring for the first time in my life. I turned on the thermostat and was expecting to feel instant warmth. I felt nothing. They say the system is silent and I realized how unnerving that is. I couldn’t tell if it was on or off. I waited around all day to feel the heating system and felt nothing. During our trip we would be in and out of the cottage. We kept the heated flooring running consistently. There were a few spots in the cottage where I could feel warm patches. My husband is convinced that heated flooring is just really weak. I feel that the cottage owner put down rugs which make it harder to feel heated floors. I also think the system might have been really old. I am not totally against adding radiant heating in my house yet. I will admit I will want to test out more radiant heated homes before buying it for mine. I am not impressed so far.
