Whoever built my house definitely liked the idea of it looking like a farmhouse.
The flooring was all brown rug.
The ceilings are wood. The exterior is a rusty orange. The worst was the brick pad that housed a wood stove right in the middle of the living room. I made a lot of changes to the home to ensure that it looked more modern. The brown rug got ripped up and changed to gray tile. The wood walls were sanded and painted white. I removed the brick pad and had the woodstove taken out. It was vented to the ceiling and upt ot the roof. Sadly once I removed the woodstove, I started having an issue with leaks. Right where the vent was, I was getting a little bit of water. I kept trying to fix it on my own. Frequently I would get out my big ladder and caulk around the area. I then tried liquid cement to see if that would do the trick. No dice. I hated to do it, but I had to call a roofing business. I needed a roofing repair stat. I can’t believe I waited so long too. The roofers fixed up the roof in a matter of hours. It hasn’t leaked since. I don’t know what they did exactly, but I am guessing they used hardier stuff than I did. I am just thankful I didn’t ruin my house by removing that wood stove. I am quite a bit of money in the hole over all the updates I made. I also didn’t budget a roofing repair. I am just glad that everything is sorted away though.
