My wife and I went away for Christmas this year. The kids were really excited, because it was the first time that we ever spent Christmas away from the house. All of the children are old enough to know that Santa Claus is Mom and dad, so we don’t have to worry about keeping up with the charade anymore. This year was the perfect time for my wife and I to take the kids somewhere special. We decided to rent a vacation house about 5 miles away from a mountain ski resort. The kids didn’t know how to go skiing, but we all took lessons together. We had a lot of fun during the day. The kids went snow tubing and tried to snowboard. My wife and I went skiing and enjoyed some time at the lodge. Our vacation rental had a fireplace and we tried to use it as soon as we got there. The furnace was running, but the heat was only set at 60°. We adjusted the furnace thermostat to 68° and my wife and I started working on a fire in the fireplace. The kids brought us some wood and logs from outside. There was no on the ground, but there was a large stack of firewood on the porch under the awning. We started a fire in the fireplace and we kept it roaring the whole time that we were there. Between the furnace and the fireplace, the vacation rental was filled with plenty of warm air. We had such a great time on vacation that I think we will probably take the kids somewhere new next year for the holidays.
