It was a Saturday evening, and I had invited my girlfriends for a sleepover. We were to watch the last and final episode of Supernatural. We would eat later, play indoor board games, and then sleep. It has been such a good week. Two friends had started a company together, and I was promoted to senior HVAC tech at the home services company. The summer was at its peak, but that did not affect our indoor comfort because my home has a geo heat pump. Each apartment has a digital thermostat where the tenant can set their desired room temperature. It was the best it had behaved in the last several months. My friends were talking about inspecting their ductwork and the best tape for duct sealing and telling me how lucky I was that I did not have to worry about such things in my place. I, however, reminded them that I work in the heating industry, which I handle almost every day. I was also their go-to person in all matters of heating technology. I was the one who managed one of their furnace installations and heating maintenance. I still remember how nervous I was when I installed my first heating device, which did not work.
