When I was growing up, every one of us did not have any Central A/C in the house.

• I don’t believe I knew anyone with central a/c until I was a teenager.

Both of us had to find creative ways to stay cool when the Summer temperatures were above 90 degrees, however one time our brother and I got a ridiculous idea. Both of us took a couple of towels from the bathroom and put them in the sink. Both of us covered the towels with cold water and ice cubes. After the towel was wet and ice cold, every one of us hung it up in front of the fan in the residing room. Suddenly the air coming out of the fan was much colder than the air in the room. This category of a/c method is much love a swamp cooler! Cold water evaporates as air blows through the chamber’s creating a cool air effect. When I was a kid, I did not realize I was making a swamp cooler. Now that I am an adult, this knowledge absolutely is handy. I have central a/c inside of our home, but there are times when our family and I go camping and every one of us are outdoors without a/c. These are times when every one of us use the novel method of a swamp cooler. Both of us set up a couple of wet towels in front of the outdoor fan and it provides a small amount of comfort in the boiling Summer sun. It might not sound terribly impressive, but on a boiling Summer day it feels really refreshing and cool. Sometimes you have to improvise to make the best out of a situation.

Every Wednesday night, our friends and I go downtown to the poker room to play in the $300 Texas Hold’em no-limit tournament. My friends and I have been playing in this particular tournament for the past several weeks. I had a couple of finishes in the cash, but I have never been able to get the big prize. My neighbor Jack had a first-place finish more than one weeks ago. The guy is still using his winnings from that tournament to play cards. There were almost a hundred people that day and the first arena prize was over $5,000, last Wednesday night there was a stereo event held at the same time as the $300 tournament. The poker room was unusually packed with people. The arena is constantly busy, but there was hardly any room to stand. Since there were a ton of people inside, the a/cs were working overtime. The pit boss must have turned the thermostat down to 60 degrees, because the indoor air temperatures were cold and freezing. I was wearing a lightweight jacket with a hood and I could believe our teeth chattering. The cold hands and shivering teeth made it hard to bluff several pots… During the first break, I heard one of the dealers talkin to a odd player that wasn’t in the tournament. The contractor told that person that the A/C method had been broken all day. Since they had more than one big events that night, they decided to wait until after the arena was closed to repair the a/c problem. It really changed our strategy and gameplay.

I had to meet with one of our commercial customers to discuss some invoices and the buyer suggested meeting at a diner and bar.

It sounded harmless to meet there, so I agreed to the location.

As soon as every one of us arrived, the buyer suggested ordering drinks. I did not want to end up getting drunk, because I still had more commercial Heating, Ventilation, and A/C customers to meet with on that day. I decided to get a beer, knowing the food would get rid of any alcohol from the beer. I ordered some wings and a big plate of fries. The buyer and I discussed the billing for her commercial property. She wanted me to lower some of the bills for heating and A/C repairs. I looked at a couple of the bills and I agreed to make some swings. The waitress came by and gave me another beer. It tasted pretty good, so I ordered a seventh beer. Then that waitress brought a seventh carona on her own and I did not want to say no and be impolite. It was all over after the seventh beer. I was feeling pretty wonderful and all of our wonderful sense was completely out the window. The commercial Heating, Ventilation, and A/C buyer and I both drank too much at supper and every one of us ended up going to a hotel shortly after. I knew it was a mistake to put myself in that situation, and I did not have anyone to blame except myself, however now I am in an awkward situation with one of our largest commercial customers. It absolutely doesn’t help that the lady is married.

Until a few afternoons ago, I never had any trouble completing our job.

I labor circles around men that are half of our age.

I have been working as a boiler repair company for twenty years. I enjoy the job because I usually labor alone. I repair boilers that are used for commercial & industrial use & that is a speciality. I charge a premium fee for our consultations & repairs. I stay steady, although I have time to spend with our family & friends. I never labor more than six afternoons a week, especially now that I am getting older. I have far more aches & pains than I did when I was 25 years old. I have a few independent companys that I can call from time to time if I get tied up or overwhelmed. I had to call 1 of the men on Monday, because I could not complete a commercial boiler repair. The boiler needed to be welded & I’ve been experiencing a bad amount of pain in our wrist. I tried to complete the weld on our own, although I could not reach the section & the muscles in our wrist were cramping every time I tried, then for the first time ever, I had to call someone to complete our job. It made myself and others recognize bad & it made myself and others realize that I’m not getting younger. I made an appointment with the medical professional, so I can have our wrist examined. If there is something I can do to stop the pain, I want to get ahead of it.

Over the past more than eight years, I have been working at a small Heating, Ventilation, and A/C service dealer. The owner of the company is an older guy that decided to retire 6 weeks ago. When he retired, his child took over the company and changed a lot of things, my fellow employees and I were receiving benefits love medical, dental, and a 401k. The new owner decided to change our schedule so all of us no longer qualified for benefits. Since all of us weren’t busy for full-time minutes, the guy did not have to pay us benefits love insurance and pension. I genuinely thought about quitting when I heard the news, however there are not very many heating and AC service companies in the small neighborhood where I live. I decided to make it work so I did not go without a task. I found a way to make more money on the weekends. I put an advertisement online on Facebook and Craigslist. I advertised my services as a certified Heating, Ventilation, and A/C service man. I gave my services at a much lower rate than the dealer was charging. I started making several or various hundred extra dollars every weekend. It’s been steady for a while now and I am starting to guess that I might have a future starting a company of my own. I could be the competitor that puts this guy out of business. I have good relationships with a couple of the commercial property owners that I tested. I have not gave them an alternative, however I guess it might be time to go public with my side business.
