I’m off the grid now and I have been for a few years.
I have been working on a locale out in the country for a long time and I finally have it just about exactly how I want it to be. I am basically self sustaining these afternoons. I have a huge garden, a well that I dug myself, and a couple of other water sources. I live right next to a huge forest and there are plenty of animals around for hunting. I can also fish in the river that is close by and I am raising some of my own livestock and poultry for food, too. I enjoy being off the grid, for the most part… One of the things that I was uneasy about when I first moved out here was the lack of a heating and cooling system. Even though I really wanted to live off the grid, I did not want to deliver up my furnace and my air conditioning! Now, instead of a furnace care about I used to have, I only heat with a wood burning stove and a wood burning fireplace. However, I wasn’t really ready to get rid of my a/c. I enjoy to have central a/c while in the Summer and so I got myself all set up with a great generator so that I can run a window component air conditioning while in the hottest parts of the summer. I easily don’t think that I could commit to living off the grid the way that I have if I didn’t have a way to run the air conditioning.
