I was fresh out of HVAC school and starting my apprenticeship.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew I was to work with their top HVAC technician for the next six weeks.
The first HVAC technician was rude and I was hoping I would never need to work with him. He was bragging about what a great HVAC technician he was. He acted like he was the greatest HVAC technician to ever be born. I huffed at his attitude, and rolled my eyes. Being a woman that is an HVAC technician, can be daunting. Needing to work with someone like him was going to be worse. I was waiting for the owner of the HVAC company to introduce me to my mentor, when the HVAC technician came up to me. He asked if I was ready to work, and I knew he was flexing his muscles under his shirt. Before I thought, I stood up and looked up. He was almost a foot and a half taller than me, and probably a hundred pounds heavier, but I wasn’t afraid of him. I told him I was ready to go to work when I got into the HVAC office. I hoped I wasn’t working with a rude person like him. He laughed when I said that and walked into the office. The secretary was trying not to laugh and asked if I had met the owner of the HVAC company. I told her I had only talked to him on the phone. She nodded at the door and told me he had just walked into his office, and all I could do was groan.
