There was a time when I couldn’t be bothered by much of what was going on around me.
It was all focused on the job at hand and achieving goals.
This was the way I was raised and what I brought to the zone controlled HVAC of the office. When it came to work, I was a thousand percent committed. For sure, that’s a great way to get ahead in business. But it’s not so great for relationships and adding balance to your life. When the commercial HVAC of the office was no longer accessible during the pandemic, it was probably a good thing. While I hated being cooped up inside the central air conditioning of my home, there was something very enriching about the experience. Suddenly, my work seemed to slow down to the point where I got a fresh perspective on what I was doing. Being together with my family inside the air conditioning of my home that summer, really changed me. I would work remotely from the air conditioning in my house but would hang it up when everybody else did. When we were back in the office, it wasn’t that way because I just kept going. But being at home and slowing down helped me realize that I was missing out on a huge chunk of my life. I’ve worked on being present and in the moment for the last few years. And it’s really paid off for me. On top of strengthening my relationships and my own wellness, I even saved myself a big HVAC repair expense. I actually noticed that the HVAC unit sounded weird. The HVAC professionals were able to catch a problem really early that saved me big bucks.
