Here in the South we have a love-hate relationship with our air conditioning.
Oh don’t get me wrong, we absolutely love RAC, and there is not a single person living here who would give it up.
When I say we have a love-hate relationship with the air conditioner, what I mostly mean is we love our AC but we hate our utility bill that goes along with it. More and more, we are seeing improvements in HVAC technology that are allowing air conditioning manufacturers to come up with more and more efficient AC units. This is very good news for us and for the world. We do want more efficiency because we want to get the most out of our environment that we can. We want to be comfortable without destroying the planet, and we also want to be comfortable without destroying our wallets! I do love my air conditioning, and most times I use it all year long. This year, though, the heater has come into play more than it usually does. We are having exceptionally cold weather this winter, which is the truth down, is kind of nice. It’s especially nice because I know that I have a good heater and I do not have to worry about freezing to death.I say that without really thinking, because in truth, there are people in the world who do have to worry about freezing to death, so I should not be so Cavalier in my language. In any event, here in the South our air conditioning is a valued commodity, and this year our heating systems are also extremely valuable. I do worry sometimes about the old folks or the poor folks or the homeless folks who do not have adequate Heating and Cooling available to them. I do know that our utility company offers some kind of assistance to those who might be poor or just stable so that they can use their heating and cooling systems.
