I knew that there is for sure a trade off when it comes to leaving the harsh Winters behind.
Moving south and leaving the gas furnace behind was done with my eyes wide open.
For sure, I knew that there was a balance to having the sort of Winter temperatures that don’t need the likes of a gas furnace. Shoot, the Winter here hardly even needs help from the heat pump much less a gas furnace. But where I came from, the heating of a home was really the only HVAC conversation that mattered. That all changed the moment we upgraded the HVAC equipment on our house, sold it and moved to the south. I don’t regret the move one bit. Still though, there are adjustments. I so miss my old friends and colleagues. But I sure don’t miss the underwhelming commercial HVAC of my old office. That place was so cold in the Winter that I had to bring a space heater from home. Of course, that space heater could now take care of just about all the heating we need where we live now. At the same time, I know what’s coming and I’m already preparing for the high heat and humidity. If heating a house was the only HVAC conversation back home, then air conditioning is the focus of HVAC down here. And I make sure that the HVAC unit is ready to go as the Spring gets here quick. It won’t be long before I’m sealing up the house really tight and pulling the solar shades to stop the direct sunlight heating. But I’d much rather deal with lots of air conditioning than deal with all that gas furnace heating.
