The view

My hubby and I live in an part of the country which never gets a lot of hot weather, but as a result, it has never made much sense to install central air conditioner, but instead, we install window cooling systems in our kitchen and kitchen during the summer time and take them out for the rest of the year; The window air conditioner units have always done a good job of cooling the household during the few days when the outside temperatures reach the 70s… So it isn’t that they aren’t doing their job, however it’s a lot of work to put them in, take them out, and store them twice a year.

The other setback is that they block our view – which is so important to me.

I stumbled across an article that discussed installing through-the-wall cooling systems. There were many advantages to this option over window cooling systems, namely that they don’t block the view, but my hubby is quite handy when it comes to carpentry, so we decided to go ahead and make the change. After cutting the pre-measured hole in the walls, he then built the frame to hold and support the cooling systems, however next, we slid the air conditioner units into locale and fastened the electrical cord and hoses… Finally, he used the drywall that he had cut out of the hole to fill in the spaces between the cooling systems and the walls to prevent air from escaping. When the installation was complete, I couldn’t have been happier. I could now care about the attractive view from our windows at the same time that my rooms were cool and comfortable.
