My family has used the same repairman for years.
He worked at my parent’s house and now for my siblings and I at our own homes.
We never even gave it a thought when we purchased our homes and just called up the HVAC company and requested him as our serviceman too. Well, lately, we have all been rethinking this decision. There are several reasons for this, first, he is really not certified to work on newer systems. There are so many technicians out there that are qualified to work on modern systems and we feel that he may be missing things with regards to maintenance. Modern HVAC technology includes computer boards and even WiFi connections and I don’t think that our usual guy has any clue when it comes to that. All of my siblings and I agree that we need to contact our HVAC dealer and request a new technician. We will make sure to tell them that we don’t have a problem with our current one personally, but we really need someone with more knowledge of new technology. My brother just installed all new units in his home and a Smart Thermostat to program and monitor them. He wants to make sure and protect that investment with the right type of maintenance and repairs when needed. I am sure that our parents will keep the same guy because they don’t have a new system and they are very loyal to the technician that they have had for so many years. I hope he doesn’t take it personally that we are all changing and understands that we just need the best person to do the job.
