I knew I needed a new furnace before winter arrived.
What I wanted to know was what was wrong with the furnace.
If it was something I did that needed to change that could have changed the situation, I wanted to know. He started talking about parts and medical terms he wouldn’t understand. I reminded him I wasn’t an HVAC technician and asked him to dumb it down when he started using technical terms. Once he mentioned carbon monoxide poisoning, I knew it was serious. He told me about the one component where off-gasses were held. When that component broke, formaldehyde, components and calling them by names I didn’t understand. I wouldn’t talk to him about carbon monoxide, and other gasses could escape. Instead of trying to repair the component, it is generally suggested you buy a new furnace. I wanted to know why I couldn’t purchase a new one? The HVAC technician told me to buy the component and have it installed, would be almost the cost of a new furnace. There was a reason why the heat exchanger cracked, and he didn’t want it to happen again. This I understood, and told him to bring us a new furnace. I just wanted to know why it was necessary to have a new furnace installed. Once he explained, in words I understood, I was okay with it. I didn’t like the idea of having a new furnace installed, because of how expensive it was. I had to have a furnace, and I told him I wanted to wait a couple of months when last season’s furnaces were on sale.
