Except for the initial burning smell, the furnace seemed to work perfectly
I didn’t expect to be away that long. My business trip had me gone from my home for over 8 months. I was coming back close to winter and I wasn’t sure if everything worked well. My furnace was pretty old and I needed an HVAC technician to examine it before the cold finally set in fully. I suspected everything was wrong with the heating unit, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the best recommendation was to replace it. The HVAC business I worked with for all of the furnace service and repairs was always helpful. They sent me a heater installation and furnace expert. The HVAC expert began by checking for obvious issues considering that I had skipped the annual routine maintenance that guaranteed efficiency. All the filters were clogged and would cause airflow resistance. This would mean that my furnace would overwork and even damage the limit switch that regulated the furnace fans. He changed the filters immediately. Surprisingly, there was no significant wear and tear that would affect the heater’s efficiency. The ignition/ pilot controls surprised me the most as it was intact. The thermostat needed a bit of adjusting but other than that it was perfectly okay. I was assured that the thermostat would get me the comfort levels I needed with proper temperature settings. The HVAC professionals then tested the healing unit to verify the surface checks. Except for the initial burning smell, the furnace seemed to work perfectly. It heated my home well, and wasn’t as noisy as I thought it would be. Whether this was a sheer miracle or an indicator that I had one of the best heating units still remains a mystery to me. The furnace served me for 5 more years without any hitches until I chose to upgrade to a newer and more efficient version.
