I bought my home from an old ex-soldier who wanted to travel the world.
Everything about the house was in perfect condition but my sister insisted on changing the HVAC unit.
I didn’t see the need to since the air conditioning unit did not give me problems. However, sister Lindah was of the opinion that both the air conditioning unit and the furnace were outdated. She believed that I would be paying higher energy bills especially when it came to winter heating. She insisted that I had to call an HVAC technician to examine the entire heating and cooling system. After all, the cold season was around the corner and the last thing I needed was a heating emergency. Surprisingly, Lindah was right. The HVAC provider checked the entire HVAC system and had a lot to say. The first concern was the annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating. The air conditioner service provider was concerned that the rating of the unit I had was too low. The AFUE rate was only 56% which meant that 44% of the energy was wasted. The HVAC expert advised me to get a new furnace installed since the old model in place was wasteful. He insisted on a heating unit with 90 percent AFUE rating. According to the HVAC business specialist, it was also important to change the old air conditioning unit because of wear and tear. He noted that the previous owner did well to ensure the boiler/heater and AC were properly maintained. The HVAC unit showed signs of regular air conditioner service and furnace service. However, due to age, the components decline annually. The HVAC technician said that no amount of repairs or maintenance service would make the unit efficient. After all, the HVAC system was over 2 decades old and due for replacement.
