Winter prep pays of in heating savings

Being a homeowner is much better than living in apartments.

I grew up in an apartment inside a big city.

While it was a loving home and I loved that life. It was a cramped apartment with radiant heating in the winter and barely any air conditioning in the summer. I think we had an ancient window air conditioner that produced good cooling if you stood right in front of it. So now that I’m a homeowner, I’m loving having great residential HVAC. Just walking into the quality heating and air after work is glorious. And I also love that I’m now building equity instead of just paying rent. However, I’m not so good at a lot of other things when it comes to being a homeowner. I’m just not very tuned in to doing all the household projects that need to be done. I try to stay on top of changing the HVAC air filter. Luckily, the HVAC maintenance is taken care of because of the HVAC service plan we’re part of. But even doing the yard is a hassle and my wife really pretty much has to threaten me before I go cut the grass. I could do a whole lot better when it comes to that part of being a homeowner. This past fall, I actually did something for the first time and it’s really paying off this winter when it comes to the heating bills. I decided to go to the HVAC company website and download a winter preparation checklist for our home. It was really straightforward and all I had to do was follow along. By creating a seal and really tightening up the house, I’ve reduced the heating cost from the gas furnace by over 25 percent. That’s an amazing savings.
