I wasn’t sure which was weirder; if I told him he was amazing, or the hug I gave him
Last week, the HVAC technician stopped by the house to check on the new furnace. He told me he would drop by within a week and do an inspection on the furnace to make sure it was working properly. I thanked him for his diligence, and let him head into the basement. Half an hour later, he told me everything looked good and asked if I was having a problem with the thermostat. It was a new smart thermostat, and I wasn’t able to use it. I told him I tried to program the smart thermostat, but the programming didn’t work. I was trying to get it to keep the temperature, but I had to reset it every morning. He went over to the thermostat and started playing with it. He said he was going to the service van and he would be right back. He brought in another thermostat and set it up for me. He said it wasn’t a smart thermostat, but it was a digital, programmable thermostat. It would be easier to use, and he wasn’t charging me for either thermostat. I wanted to tell him how amazing he was, but that would have been weird. I thanked him, and then I gave him a hug. I wasn’t sure which was weirder; if I told him he was amazing, or the hug I gave him. We were both blushing, and he told me they had never given him such good payment for his service. He said that was better than any paycheck he had ever received. He said the paycheck was nice, but only when it came from the HVAC company owner.
