I was unsure about having an HVAC technician come to my home.
I was a single mother with a four-year-old son. He was super friendly and saw no danger in anything. I worried that if someone came to the house, he would let them in. Although I kept the door locked, I still worried. I was worrying even more when I heard the news last week. There were people going around posing as HVAC technician and robbing the people blind. While one HVAC technician showed you a fake ID badge, another was going through the back door. I needed to make sure all my doors were locked at all times, and my son needed to know he shouldn’t be opening the door to anyone. Even if it was his grandma, he had to wait for me to unlock the door. He wasn’t sure why I had to be so mean, but he agreed. When the HVAC technician arrived, I asked for him to hand me his ID badge through the crack in the door. I took the badge inside and called the HVAC company. I verified who he was before I let him in the house. I locked the door behind him, and he headed to the basement. When mom came to visit later that afternoon, my son stood by the door and kept asking who it was. He was playing with mom and asked her to show her ID badge to him before she came in. I chased him away from the door and opened it to see a puzzled look on my mom’s face.
