When my neighbor saw the HVAC company van in my driveway, he decided to come over and tell me that I was getting ripped off.
I have some great neighbors who really bring a lot to my life. It’s great to be part of a community for the first time. Growing up the way I did, you sort of just kept your head down in that apartment building with the staggeringly huge boiler. I was taught not to even make eye contact with the neighbors and just get inside the apartment. So when I became a homeowner, I loved having neighbors about as much as I loved the central air conditioning of my home. It’s great to be counted on and be able to reach out when I need a hand. Yet, I have one neighbor who is just always a bit too in my face. This guy is a sweet enough person but he’s also the sort of guy who is absolutely sure that he knows all there is to know. That can be annoying. But until recently, I just sort of let it go and moved along. I’d listen for a minute to be friendly and then move along. Then, he sort of stepped over the line and I had to sort of correct him and set some boundaries. I came home to my heat pump running but no cooling coming from the ductwork. So of course, I called the HVAC professionals and they sent out and HVAC technician. When my neighbor saw the HVAC company van in my driveway, he decided to come over and tell me that I was getting ripped off. He knew a handyman who would do the job for a fraction of the price. I told him in no uncertain terms that HVAC repair is for HVAC professionals only in my house. And perhaps he should wait until he is invited before he chooses to give his input on my business.
