It’s pretty amazing having the relationship that I do with my boy. Well, he’s no longer a boy. My son is now in the last year of college and will soon be out there on his own. The first two years of college, he stayed at home inside the central air conditioning of our family home. But he is now living on campus and really thriving in his studies. I don’t know just where that kid got his smarts but it’s pretty astounding. In fact, my son is completely responsible for how cozy we are in our home this winter. When he was home for fall break, we made a trip to the home improvement store for something his mom needed. But while we were there he gravitated to some of the gadgets he likes to look at. And he picked up an instant read temperature gun. This is something you can point to the surface of anything and find out the temperature instantly. He told me that this would be the perfect tool for us to really seal up the house and maybe find the source of a draft that has plagued us for years. These days, I just go with what that kid suggests when it comes to stuff like that. And really the more I thought about it, it was completely logical. I was stunned to find that my house was leaking HVAC treated air like a sieve. But with that temperature gun and my son’s help, we were able to seal the house up super tight. And we did find the source of that draft which has made all the difference when it comes to how comfortable we are inside. And of course, that kid is saving me nearly 20 percent a month on heating costs.
