I’m off the grid now & I have been for a few years.
I have been working on a site out in the country for a long time & I finally have it just about exactly how I want it to be. I am basically self sustaining these days. I have a large garden, a well that I dug myself, & a couple of other water sources. I live right next to a large forest & there are plenty of critters around for hunting. I can also fish in the river that is close by & I am raising some of our own livestock & poultry for food, too. I like being off the grid, for the most part, but one of the things that I was sad about when I first moved out here was the lack of a heating & cooling system… Even though I certainly wanted to live off the grid, I did not want to deliver up our heating idea & our air conditioner! Now, instead of a heating system like I used to have, I only heat with a wood burning stove & a wood burning fireplace. However, I wasn’t certainly ready to get rid of our air conditioner. I like to have central air conditioner while I was in the Summer & so I got myself all set up with a good generator so that I can run a window component air conditioner while I was in the hottest parts of the summer. I absolutely don’t suppose that I could commit to living off the grid the way that I have if I did not have a way to run the air conditioning system.
