Changing my career plan right in the middle of school was something that I never expected to do.
I had always planned to go to school to become an accountant because I really liked math and I was good at it.
I always did well in all of my math classes at school and so when my guidance counselor told me that I should go into accounting, I believed him. I thought that it would probably be the right thing for me to do. But then once I got started in the classes after I finished up with high school, I realized that it wasn’t the right fit for me. I decided that I wanted to switch over to a different major and that’s when I started to become interested in the heating and cooling classes that they were offering at our local technical school. They also had plumbing and electrical classes but the ones that I felt like were the most interesting were the HVAC classes. I had done some research into the HVAC industry and I knew that it was really growing and they were always in need of heating and cooling technicians. When I realized that I was actually good at heating and cooling repairs and maintenance, I decided that HVAC work was the right job for me. I had never expected to change my career plans right in the middle of my first semester of college, but that’s exactly what happened to me. Now I’m really glad that I did because I actually really enjoy being an HVAC technician.
